The Medal:
This medal is interesting in that it is a modified version of a Sons
of Union Veterans medal issued to the Albany Sons of Veterans. The group
also had a post in New York City. The obverse reads "VETERANORUM FILII"
with the intertwined "SV" in the center. The reverse is inscribed "98-00
Cuba & Puerto Rico Co A 1st Cav NY"
At present, it is not known if this is a one-of-a-kind medal or one
that was issued to all members of A Troop.
The 1st New York Volunteer Cavalry served in Puerto
Rico during the war.
